Legal advice that’s embedded in your business

Aliya founded Verist Legal after a decade of sitting at every side of the table.

She started her practice at Canada's largest employee-side litigation firm learning exactly where companies get into trouble, where documentation gaps become lawsuits, and what’s important from the employee's perspective in getting a claim to settle. Her time in BigLaw had her advising some of the world's largest companies and institutions on complex issues spanning the employment lifecycle. As in-house counsel at a large publicly traded company, she led strategies for company-wide policy design, new market expansion, and cross-border workforce challenges. She also knows what it’s like to run a lean legal function inside a rapidly expanding private company with operations across North America, handling employment and corporate commercial matters while building the legal function from the ground up.

She understands that every industry has its own norms, every company its own risk tolerance and cultural quirks. She’s seen how generic solutions can create more questions than they answer and that the best legal advice is tested, accessible and consistent with how the business actually operates.

She has regular speaking engagements with industry associations such as Human Resources Development Canada, the Chartered Professionals of Human Resources BC and Yukon, and the People's Law School. She has been featured on TV and radio spots such as the CBC, CKNW, and Zee TV. She was co-host of Global News’ Employment Law Show and a regular contributor to CLEBC's Annual Review of Law and Practice, Employment Law Chapter.

A dual US-Canadian citizen, she has a particular interest in multi-jurisdictional and cross-border employment law.

If you have a problem you want to work through, she'd love to hear it.
